HOW TO GET HERE

So close, yet a little bit far away.

The wild fish of Punta Allen are wild for a reason- because we are a little bit remote. That being said, it’s not that hard to get here- International flights into Cancun are easy to get from anywhere, and that’s where your adventure begins. All guests should book flights to Cancun, Mexico. From there, Kay Fly will provide a shuttle for up to 10 guests to the lodge in Punta Allen.

There are two shuttle options from Cancun to our lodge depending on the timing of flights: If guests arrive in Cancun before 1:00 PM, they can take a 2-2.5 hour shuttle to a boat that leaves from the bridge at Boca Paila inside the reserve. The boat ride to Punta Allen is 45 minutes- 1 hour from there.

If guests cannot arrive before 1:00 PM, the shuttle will take them directly to the lodge in a four to five hour time frame. All airline or private flight itineraries must be supplied in advance of your arrival in Cancun.

Required Documents

You must supply your passport as proof of citizenship to obtain a Mexican Tourist Card to enter the country. The Tourist Card application is issued at the ticket counter or onboard by the flight attendants for flights into Mexico. Please fill it out in flight and present it along with your proof of citizenship to the immigration officials when you arrive in Cancun. Keep this tourist card with your passport. You will need it to depart Mexico.

For proof of citizenship you can use ONLY a:

1. Valid Passport from your country of origin (check expiration date). The tourist card will be checked at your first point of entry. The immigrations official will retain one copy and give you the other, which you must surrender at the airline ticket counter when you check in for your return flight. Keep your copy (Tourist Card) in your possession during your stay in Mexico. No visas or inoculations are required for US citizens.

Arrival in Cancun

Upon arriving in Cancun airport you will be processed by Immigration. Next, you will claim your baggage and clear Customs. After customs, proceed to the Arrival Area outside, where the shuttle driver will meet you with a sign with your party’s name on it. The Arrival Lobby will be busy with tour operators and other arriving passengers so it can be quite chaotic.

Mexican customs law only allows for 4 rods and all of their accessories per person. If they catch you with more than 4 rods you will likely have to pay duty on the value exceeding 4 rods.

Staying in Cancun or surrounding areas

If you would like to spend a night or two in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum prior to your arrival at Kay Fly, you must arrange your own transportation to your hotel when you arrive or ask Lily for recommendations and help with transportation arrangements. There is a variety of transportation options available at the airport. Please let Lily know the hotel you are planning to stay before you arrive in Cancun. The shuttle may be able to meet you at your hotel on the day you wish to travel to Kay Fly.

Mexican Fishing License

A mandatory Mexican fishing license can be purchased upon arrival at the lodge with cash. It is $450.00 Mexican Pesos per person/ per week. Prices subject to change without notice.
